Steve Krieder may get mistaken for a student, but he’s far from it. As Program Coordinator for University Center, Student Programs and Events, Krieder deals on a daily basis with student organization finances, event planning and everything else under the sun. The University’s old motto, “Do It All,” could be his personal creed. In an interview with The Tower, Krieder talks Frisbee, television and grilling.
Why did you come to Catholic?
“The reason I came to Catholic was because all of my experience had been in large public institutions. I wanted to get some experience working in a smaller institution where you get to take on a variety of experiences rather than being well versed in one experience.” Read more

When you get an e-mail telling you that a package has arrived, ever wonder who sent it? Linwood Dailey is the man behind those notices. Linwood prides himself on his professional commitment to the student, faculty and staff and adds passion and accountability to the mailroom. Here, Dailey talks Mondays, video production and mailroom changes:
Q: When did you start working at the University and where have you worked previously?
A: I began at CUA in August of 2003. Before that I was with the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). There I was a business service manager.
Q: What changes has the mailroom seen since your arrival?
A: First it was changing the handwritten slips to automated e-mail. Scanning packages is another major change. Also, cross training, where the staff rotates where they work.”
Q: What is the busiest day of the week in the mailroom and why?
A: I would say Monday and the day following a long weekend. The reason being you have to sort and process mail from the weekend.
Q: What has changed in the types of mail and packages that students receive since you arrived at the University?
A: They seem to get bigger, I’ve seen everything from big flat screen TV’s to steaks. I guess students here are getting in shape because there are more bikes coming in. Also, a lot more care packages, which is good. It shows strong family ties.
Q: What happened to the postage machine in the mailroom?
A: It was a decision made by the U.S. Postal Service, but they removed them nationwide. They’re supposed to have new automated machines.
Q: In addition to your mailroom duties, you also filmed graduation. How did you get involved with that?
A: “I’ve been doing video production as a hobby for over 10 years. I had spoken with the Media Department and volunteered. It’s just rewarding. I get to see the senior students off.
Q: Which employees have been working in the mailroom for the longest time and for how long?
A: Corrie Simon. She’s been here for 11 years and last year she celebrated ten years of service. She’s been here the longest besides myself, five, and Emily Lee Park. She’s been here for five years.
Q: What are you hobbies?
A: Video production, basketball and flag football. I stress the word flag. I’ve had too many dislocations and surgeries.
Q: Have you ever lost any packages?
A: I’ve had packages I couldn’t verify. Out of the five years I’ve been here, it has happened four times. Out of the 5000 packages this month and a half, we’ve had 1 package we couldn’t locate, but we replaced it. It was a book.
Q: Who is your best worker?
A: I would have to say is Maxine Poles. She understands customer service and I like how she is genuinely concerned about the faculty and students. She’s engaged. I like her approach!
