The Catholic University Men’s Soccer team tied the school record of seven straight wins when they defeated Goucher College 2-1 in an away conference game this Tuesday following big wins against the McDaniel College Green Terror and the Juniata College Eagles in a Landmark Conference game. They played McDaniel on October 12th , and won 2-0.
They played Juniata on October 15th , and won 3-1.

Despite a slow first half and many missed shots, Ben Fernandez and Mike Brennan were able to lead the men to a 2-0 shutout in last week’s game against McDaniel. CUA ended with an 18-15 shot advantage over the Green Terror.

CUA took an early one-zip lead in Saturday’s game against Juniata. Mike DiMarco scored with almost 11 minutes into the game. The Eagles managed to equalize the game 1-1 by the end of the first half.

Mike Brennan wasted little time in the second half when he netted the Cardinals second goal with just over a minute in. DiMarco managed to score his second goal of the game with little time left, bringing the final score to 3-1.

“This past week we played two teams that have been struggling at times this season. However, I thought both were good teams that fought hard. What has been important for us is that we stay composed on the task at hand,” said Coach Travis Beauchamp.

CUA’s winning streak continued with their 2-1 conference win over the Goucher Gophers. The game brings their overall record to a striking 11-3 and puts them in a great position for post-season games.

Brennan started the game off early with a goal in the first seven minutes, bringing his goal count to nine for the season.

Ben Fleri pushed the score to 2-0 late in the second half, followed by a goal from the Gophers not soon after. The Cardinals managed to end the game at 2-1 despite the last minute pressure from Goucher, and coach is content with the Cardinal’s play.

“We are starting to see the players play for one another and that will certainly help as we head into the final two weeks of the regular season,” said Beauchamp.

“There are always aspects of the game that we can improve upon, but as a whole we are doing enough to get results.”

With four regular season games remaining, three of them being Landmark Conference opponents, Beauchamp hopes to maintain their victorious streak, especially with the Landmark tournament approaching quickly.

“It’s a critical point in the season and we need to continue to put together full games in order to have a high seed in the Landmark Conference tournament,” he said.

“It will be tough to be on the road this week especially given that it is Homecoming. I think it will be nice to be back at home for the final week of the regular season.”

The Cardinals will play their final away game of the regular season against the University of Scranton Royals. The game is set for Saturday the 22nd. Action kicks off in Pennsylvania at 1:00 pm. They also play their next home game at the Dufour Center on October 26th against St. Mary’s College (Maryland). The game will start at 3:30pm.
