Rolling Stone called supermodel Gisele Bundchen "the most beautiful girl in the world." For junior honors architecture student Yazmany Arboleda, she far surpasses this distinguished title.
Bundchen was the inspiration for a series of nine paintings by Arboleda that capture the famed model in various forms of expression and dress. Beautiful is an understatement, as she appears absolutely radiant in each of his works. "Her strong features are brilliantly depicted by shadow and light," Arboleda said. "Black paint and simple brush strokes are all it takes to render her exotic essence."
All paintings are currently displayed at the Cosi restaurant on Connecticut Ave. in Dupont Circle and are available for sale at an average price of about $300. These black and white acrylic on canvas paintings are based on images captured in advertisement, magazines, and film of the striking supermodel. Seven pieces are 36 x 26 while the remaining two are 24 x 24.
Arboleda is displaying these masterpieces in the hopes of earning funds for a series of ambitious and exciting opportunities. This summer, he will be studying the world of fashion at three of the most prestigious institutions for the craft: Parson's in New York City, Istituto Marangoni in Milan, and Central St. Martin's in London. In addition to developing his skills as a designer, Arboleda will also take part in an internship with the esteemed Kenneth Cole.
In the long run, Arboleda hopes to work for such notable luxury goods companies as LVMH or Gucci group, and plans to ultimately to develop his own label, YAZMANY.
Arboleda has already sold several of his works, and has also received commissions, which will contribute to lessen the cost of the coming months. Even if purchasing a painting is a little beyond budget, Arboleda's collection is not to be missed, for it is truly a showcase of superior talent.
