Catholic University is introducing the Cardinal Spirit Challenge, inviting all students, faculty, and staff to partake in a series of campus-wide events. The initiative, adamantly supported by President Garvey, will be overseen by the new CUA Pride and Spirit Committee, and was created to increase the spirit and attendance at school events. As an incentive to participate in Challenge events, prizes will be awarded to the most frequent attendees. CU@ events range from sports to drama, service and more.
Garvey was motivated to support this challenge upon recognizing “the wealth of talent we have among our student body—athletic, musical, theatrical, academic,” according to William Jonas, co-chair of the Committee. In order to showcase this unique talent, and make it more accessible to the university community, the Cardinal Spirit Challenge highlights some of the many involvements of the student body at Catholic University.
Abbreviated by the committee as CU@, the Spirit Challenge already has a full slate of eligible events for the fall semester. CU@ events were chosen by the Committee to encompass the wide range of talent belonging to the University’s diverse campus.
As many as 20 students can register as a group for the CU@ events on the website, spirit.cua.edu, and all individual students are already registered. Students are permitted to be members of more than one group. CU@ credit will be awarded to anyone that shows up and provides their Cardinal ID number. One point is given per person for each event attended.
Prizes will be awarded to the top five individuals and the top two teams based on number of events attended by April 20. Individual prizes include iPads and up to $250 in Barnes and Noble gift cards. Team prizes will include a box suite to a Washington Nationals game for first place and an all-expense-paid trip to Dave & Buster’s to the runners-up.
Faculty and staff also can create groups of up to ten members. A catered lunch will be awarded to the winning faculty and staff team.
