Syracuse Diocese bans McAuliffe for pro-choice stance
Terry McAuliffe, a graduate of Catholic University and fundraising chairman of U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, was banned from speaking at his alma matter for his views on abortion. His book talk at Bishop Ludden High School was canceled by Diocese of Syracuse because of a pro-abortion rights comment he made on the radio. "I am pro-choice, no question about it," said McAuliffe. University spokesman Victor Nakas said that McAuliffe's "public support for abortion would clearly not be an advantage for him at any Catholic university, including ours." McAuliffe spoke on campus last year. The University has a speaker policy which requires that speakers not hold values that "are counter to those of the university or the Roman Catholic Church."
