Tomorrow afternoon, the Women’s Soccer team will play the biggest game of their season, traveling to Pennsylvania to face off against conference powerhouse, Juniata College (6-2 overall record, 1-0 conference record). Junior midfielder Diana Spadaro believes that the next few games of their season will be watershed moments for the squad. “We are just waiting for that one game to change our season and change our attitudes. Even though we go into every game with positive attitudes and the motivation to win regardless of the opponent, these next few games will be extremely crucial for the rest of our season.”   After a strong week of practice, the Cards, (2-4-1) were ready to play Frostburg State University, but Mother Nature... [Read more...]

After two tough losses last weekend, the Catholic Women’s Soccer team (2-2-1) overcame their first hurdle of the season as they triumphed, 3-1 over the Saints of Marymount University. They had to wait ten days to get back to .500 but they showed that they improved as a team over their long break. With a steady offensive showing and a stout defense, the Cards started off the home slate of the season on a great note. All season long, Catholic has had faith in their freshmen to come off the bench and make big plays. Previously, Suzie Peters stated, “We have eight new freshmen that have really meshed well with the team and the style we play. We have a strong team with a lot of depth.”   Freshmen forward Caroline Burke is just one... [Read more...]

The Women’s soccer team came into last weekend’s games riding the high of a win and a tie. This past weekend at the Manhattanville Tournament, however, they ran into a brick wall in the form of Trinity and Manhattanville. Their first game against Trinity began just as Tropical Storm Hanna was hitting New York, foreshadowing an ominous end. In the first half, Catholic out-shot Trinity 6-4. However, Trinity tightened up their defense and held the powerful Cardinal offense without a shot in the last half. Trinity then broke the scoreless tie, and went on to pull away with another goal shortly thereafter. Trinity’s final goal came minutes before the end of the game, shutting out Catholic with a 3-0 finish. Putting this first loss of the season... [Read more...]

The Catholic Women’s softball team (13-15) is looking to end the regular season on a high note and carry their momentum into the Landmark Conference Tournament. They won a doubleheader against the United States Merchant Marine Academy (11-21-1) last weekend to put an end to their nine-game losing streak. They jumped on the board without delay in the first game as they scored two runs in the first. USMAA scored a run in the bottom of the first to cut into Catholic’s lead. The game was tied in the bottom of the third as USMAA got across another runner with a double to leftfield. The game remained tied until the top of the 5th inning when Catholic catcher, Sophie Gage took matters into her own hands. Gage blasted a two-run home run... [Read more...]
