New Season is Promising

September 3, 2008 by Lauren Williams · Leave a Comment

The women’s field hockey team is favored to win the Landmark Conference Championship in this year’s preseason poll. This prediction comes after an outstanding season in 2007 for the Lady Cardinals. With a regular play record of 11-9 last season, CUA finished first in the 2007 regular-season conference standings. And having an overall Landmark Conference record of 5-1 certainly didn’t hurt either. “We were all really excited to be voted as #1 in the Landmark preseason poll,” says senior team captain Ro Dixon. “[It’s a] reminder that not only do we expect really good things from our team, but other people have high expectations of us as well.” Having trained in Argentina for a week together this summer, this season’s team is... [Read more...]

Members of the College Democrats gathered to watch the acceptance speech of presidential nominee Barak Obama live on Thursday evening. “This is the most exciting part of politics,” says College Democrat chairman Joe St. George. “Obama is revolutionizing politics, and is a once-in-a-generation politician. This campus needs to get excited about this election.” The 2nd floor food court of the Pryzbyla Center was adorned with balloons, banners and the CD’s signature cardboard cutout of John F. Kennedy Jr. “This is an opportunity [for College Democrats] to come together and support Obama,” says junior Liz Kuebler. At Obama’s on-screen entrance, the cheers heard from CUA might have arguably rivaled those from Denver. And judging from... [Read more...]

The men's team fell hard to Marymount at home on Tuesday, with a final score of 2-10. Freshman Kyle Brant scored both of the team's goals, with assists from sophomore Mike Groh and junior Matt Barbieri. "We are playing very inconsistent right now," says Brant.
