Neighbors Still Upset About Noise at Nest

The Cardinal’s Nest, a bar located less than half a mile from the University, has once again upset local Brookland residents.

Residents have complained to the management about the patrons’ behavior and the loud music. “They’ve kind of antagonized the neighborhood that was supportive of them when they opened,” said John Vera, an eight year resident of Brookland. “This whole block becomes like Adams Morgan.”

Dino Drudi, a Brookland resident and advocate within the community, described in an e-mail an incident last Friday involving an overly loud band and police involvement. “The police announced, ‘Clear the streets!’ and the police helicopter flew over once or twice and shined its spotlight on the area.” Drudi said he lost 2 and half hours of sleep due to the noise.

In general, residents are unimpressed with the establishment. “It doesn’t feel much like a neighborhood bar,” resident Amy Torgerson said.

“Not very friendly, not very low key,” Meal Karan, another resident, agreed “The service is crummy. We try to support local businesses, but the food’s bad. We never get what we ordered. We’re always over charged.”

Others have protested against The Nest’s disrespect for the community and their focus on money. Resident Josephus Hicks complained, “They park all over the place, they disrespect the neighborhood. They [The Cardinal’s Nest] only care about making a dollar and they don’t care about what the neighborhood thinks.”

Others disagreed. “I’ve been there in the last month,” said Magdah Hafev, a resident of Brookland since 1982. “And the band at it was really nice.  Nice people too.”

At this time, The Cardinal’s Nest has not responded to any Tower inquiries.
