An Honorable Vote

Mr. Hall is “surprised and deeply distraught” at the fact that McCain’s VP pick of conservative woman Sarah Palin has rallied the Republican base, invigorated American women across the nation, and boosted McCain’s numbers in the polls.  Hall further marvels at how something as seemingly insignificant as a VP pick can have such drastic effects in the presidential campaign.
While Hall alleges that McCain’s rise in polls indicates that Americans are “gambling away” this election, I would argue on the contrary that the polls reflect that American people, in particular American women, have discerned what is essentially important in this race and have consequently acted on it.  The fact that McCain has picked Sarah Palin, a staunch pro-life advocate, has inspired and energized American women across the nation.  In addition, Palin’s focus on ethics reform in government is a much-needed breath of fresh air in contrast to the general corruption and lack of moral grounding that characterizes mainstream politics.

These reasons for rallying behind McCain are hardly “nonsensical” as Hall charges, but rather a manifestation of the significance role moral issues play in the minds of American voters.  Those who support Palin and her firm pro-life agenda are hardly taking a gamble since Palin’s moral character and firm stance on important ethical issues are undoubtedly sure things.

I agree with Hall as he concludes that “life is simply too short not to do the right thing by making the common-sense and conscience-driven decision.”  In fact, it seems that American voters agree with him as well as they rally behind the McCain-Palin ticket, eager for a desperately needed embrace of pro-life politics.  For the fact of the matter is, the conscience-driven decision is to cast a vote for the candidate who is grounded in firm moral principles and has a keen understanding of key ethical issues that will permeate his presidency.
